Sustainable Agriculture
Sustainability is more than a buzzword at Windset. For us, sustainable agriculture integrates three main goals: environmental stewardship, farm efficiency and prosperous farming communities.
Sustainable agriculture defines a farm's ability to produce food indefinitely, with little impact on the environment. Key areas that affect sustainable agriculture are the long-term effects of various practices on soil properties, the processes essential for crop productivity and the long-term ability of farmers to manage resources, such as labour.
Here’s how we embrace sustainability:
- We employ carbon-neutral biomass burners that use wood fibre
- We use energy screens extensively to prevent heat loss and conserve energy
- We collect and recirculate rainwater for irrigation
- We employ IPM (Integrated Pest Management)
- We provide a safe working environment year-round
- We grow a lot of fresh produce in a small amount of space
