That's Nuts

There are usually two opinions regarding the health benefits of nuts – they’re fattening stay away from them or they are a convenient snack with a long list of health benefits. So which is it? As a dietitian, a large percentage of my clientele want to a) lose body fat and b) be healthy. So the good news is, it’s not an “either/or” situation. Nuts actually support both goals.

I’ve Lost 10 lbs – Now What?

It’s always disheartening to see people dedicate months to a strict diet, have great success losing 10-20 lbs, sadly followed by an inevitable re-gain. Why is it so difficult to keep weight off? Weight regain occurs in up to 90% individuals who have successfully lost weight. This received a lot of attention at the last American College of Sport Medicine conference I attended. One cup of raw, chopped red peppers provides over 100% of the DV (daily value) for vitamin C and vitamin A. Red peppers are also an excellent source of vitamin B6. But the principles of healthy eating apply wherever you eat. A little planning can help you make healthy food choices wherever you go. Choose a variety of foods from the four food groups, increase your grains, fruits and vegetable consumption, choose leaner meats and low-fat dairy products and select foods prepared using little or no fat (choose healthy fats when you have to).
